With the long winter, cold temperatures, and biting wind, it seemed like Spring would never arrive this year. Yet, arrive it has... and the first sign of Spring? The GRIN State Championships.
This year's championships took place March 22 - 23 at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center on the Purdue University campus. A great venue to race in, this hard-fought meet posted fast times, great rivalries, and amazing swims. When the two-day meet was over and the race results were tallied, the IAM women took the State title and the IAM men finished second. Combining those two results, Indy Aquatic Masters won the Large Team division.
The 56 IAM swimmers who competed showed a remarkable team spirit. IAM swimmers not only competed well, but also cheered loudly and encouraged their fellow competitors - especiallly our first-time competitors. It was a great meet and a great group of people on deck. In addition to the many personal best times recorded, there were a few new GRIN State Records set by IAM swimmers, including Nadine Day [40-44; 100 Breast (1:10.78), 200 Fly (2:19.21), and 400 IM (4:51.02)], Chris Clarke [45-49; 400 IM (4:40.35)], and Tim Reiman [80-84; 200 Breast (4:41.13)]. In addition, the 35+ Mixed 400 Free Relay team of Linda Marvin, Chris Clarke, Nadine Day, and Ben Christoffel set a record with their 3:45.08 relay. Check out the full individual results and overall team results. Congratulations IAM swimmers! You make us proud!
