IAM Swimmers Have Great Success at the USMS 25K National Championships!

June 18, 2011 – Morse Reservoir, Noblesville, Indiana

On June 18, 2011, the best open water swimmers from around the country congregated at Morse Reservoir in Noblesville, Indiana, for the 2011 U.S. Masters Swimming 25K Solo and Relay National Championships. While the race was supposed to get underway at 7am, storms passing through the area caused a two-hour delay. When the weather finally began to cooperate, the swimmers hit the water. By day’s end, 25 swimmers completed the full 25K, 28 completed a 20K (which became an official distance due to the day’s earlier weather-delayed start), and 136 swimmers completed their 5K relay swims.

Indy Aquatic Masters’ swimmers were well represented among the entrants at the national championships. They swam to exceptional results – and the race’s finish was astounding. After swimming a complete 25K, first and second place were decided by a mere .02 seconds. First out of the water with a time of 5:42.04 was Adam Dawkins (Coach Todd’s brother), followed immediately by Scott Wells (5:42.06), who traveled from Jacksonville, Florida, to compete. Next out of the water were three IAM swimmers – Jeffrey Halbert (6:02.06), Jim Barber (6:20.35), and the women’s overall winner, Victoria Rian (6:20.36).

In the 5K relays, Will Huibregtse (1:08.02), Luke Dickson (1:09.41), Susie Shuck (1:10.45), and Rachel Ripley (1:11.10) all had outstanding swims.

Congratulations to them, as well as to all of our IAM finishers.
