On March 24 and 25, swimmers from Indiana and the surrounding states descended on North Central High School for the GRIN State Meet. With 218 swimmers in attendance, the meet promised fierce competition and fast times! Over two days of racing, new friends were made and old acquaintances were renewed. And, the swimming? In a word, FAST! Several new Indiana state records were set – many of those by IAM’s own. Setting new state records in the 45-49 Women’s Age Division were Victoria Rian (200 Free – 2:06.31, 1000 Free – 11:23.91, and 1650 Free – 19:21.03) and Susie Shuck (100 IM – 1:08.45). In the Women’s 50-54 Age Division, new state records were set by Lisa Zedonis (1000 Free – 12:48.02 and 1650 Free – 21:27.06) and Roberta Norwood (50 Fly – 29.67). And, Susan Meyers dominated the 70-74 Women’s Division setting new records in the 200 Free (2:58.09), 1000 Free (16:55.02), 1650 Free (28:11.48), 100 Back (1:36.10), and 100 Fly (1:36.91). On the Men’s Side, Jim Thompson (100 Back – 1:07.50) and Tom Perrin (50 Back – 28.99) set new records in the 60-64 Division, while Doug Miller lowered the record times in the 65-69 Division in the 500 Free (6:02.03), 200 Breast (2:50.93), and 200 Fly (2:33.56). And, in the midst of those outstanding individual swims, a blistering time of 3:37.21 was turned in for the 25+ Mixed 400 Free Relay by Luke Dickson, Rachel Ripley, Megan Sobecki, and Ryan Harper.
In addition to all of the new records set, IAM also had a number of swimmers making their competitive Masters debut. Congratulations to all of our IAM swimmers – from our novice to our seasoned competitors. Without you, IAM would not be the successful team that we have become. Together, we are great and we are STATE CHAMPIONS!
